Breakthrough

I sing the song
Of one who has come through
The song of sleepy sundowns
Downy, flaky, remnants of time
Fireflies in summer nights
Night sounds on stairways
Evenings blurred in smoky surrender

I sing the song
Of desolate night-born thoughts
The thoughts of relentless rain
Lashing the sodden earth
Unbeing at the hour of birth
Of my fallible self
And creating a self anew

I sing the song
Of one who has come through
The song you half remember
Through misted panes
Unsung –
My song
Yours too
